ɫƵ Theatre to Present “Dear Albert Einstein”
ɫƵ University Theatre will present “Dear Albert Einstein,’ a one-act comedy musical by Sara Wordsworth and Russ Kaplan, on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Buzz Oates Blackbox Theatre.
The play is directed by Dr. Christine Williams, professor of theatre and chair of the Communication Arts Department at ɫƵ. The show tells the story of a 12-year-old math whizz named Susan Fisher as she tries to fit in at middle school while being followed around by an imaginary Albert Einstein. Susan tries to be popular, but finds herself dealing with unhappy friends, school, an annoying twin brother, and staying true to herself—on top of dealing with a pesky Albert Einstein that won’t leave her alone.
“This is a delightful musical comedy, and we are thrilled to offer it to our community,” said Williams. “The mix of jazz, rock, pop and other genres along with a fun story makes for a great time for the whole family. We are having a great time working on the show and cannot wait to share it with our audience.”
The cast for Dear Albert Einstein includes ɫƵ students Minne Brock as Susan, Jaiden Thompson as Steven, Tanner Jennings as Einstein, Gabrielle Banker as Judy, and Lily Allen as Miss D. The show’s production team includes ɫƵ students Aliana Duty as assistant stage manager, Maya Huffman as dance choreographer, Brooke Jenkins as costume designer, and Madison Mennenga as stage manager. Dr. Chery Brendel, adjunct professor of voice at ɫƵ, is the show’s music director, and ɫƵ Theatre alum, Laura Hicks, is set designer.
“‘Dear Albert Einstein’ is a fun, creative musical that emphasizes embracing our unique gifts, being our best selves, even when that means going against the mainstream, and, of course, thinking ‘outside the box,’” said Brendel.
